Decentralized Architecture
Each SpeakerLinX contains the hardware and software required to take TCP/IP audio packets, convert them back to audio and amplify the signal for each zone. By decentralizing the amplifier, the SpeakerLinX can be placed closer to the speaker minimizing signal loss normally caused by long cable runs between the amplifier and speakers. This creates better sound from smaller amplifiers. Decentralization also allows the SpeakerLinX to function as a room controller, allowing peripheral devices (Audio ports, KeyLinX, IRLinX, and the Professional Series Amplifier) to be used with the SpeakerLinX. Centralizing the amplifier, room controller and connecting local devices to the SpeakerLinX minimizes the amount of cabling required to accomplish multiple services. For larger zones multiple SpeakerLinX can be linked in software to function as a single zone.
IP Ready Speakers
Combined with StreamNet Ready speakers, the SL254 creates an IP Speaker. IP Speakers keep the digital audio in its digital form all the way to the actual voice coil in the speaker, providing unsurpassed audio quality. Most IP Speakers are bi or tri-amplified providing greater control over the audio quality, a higher sound pressure level (SPL), an improved dynamic range and smoother frequency response. Using DigiLinX Dealer Setup, an SL254 can be configured to specific speaker models, additionally, these speaker manufacturer specified profiles can be upgraded over time to provide even better performance. One SL254 will support a pair of Bi-Amplified IP Ready Speakers.
Audio Decoder and Encoder
Each SpeakerLinX (SL254) includes an audio decoder and encoder, the decoder is capable of rendering a TCP/IP stream of linear PCM audio, and decoding a WAV file (uncompressed audio), or decoding an MP3 file in real-time . These decoded files can be distributed on the network or amplified. Audio sources connected to the SpeakerLinX through an Audio Port (sold separately) can be encoded for distribution across the DigiLinX network.
Zone Control
The SpeakerLinX functions as a room controller. Each device includes a built in web server that allows a user to control the DigiLinX system from any Adobe Flash® enabled browser on a computer, web tablet, UMPC, or PDA.
Digital Signal Processor and Amplifier
Using an Apogee Technology Class-D amplifier, a Texas Instruments digital signal processor and BURR-BROWN DACs a SpeakerLinX can provide superior clarity and control of the audio signal. The SL254 is designed to drive 4 channels at 25 watts per channel at 4 ohms. Also built into the SpeakerLinX is a 4-band graphic equalizer and graphic EQ Presets allowing tonal control for each zone.
EIM Port - SpeakerLinX includes a built in EIM (Expansion Interface Module) port that allows peripheral devices like the NetStreams Audio Port, KeyLinX, IRLinX, and EIM enabled amplifiers like the NetStreams Professional Series Amplifier to be connected locally in the zone. The Audio Port allows a source that is located in the zone to be play in the zone or to be distributed through the system. KeyLinX provides a basic 10 button interface for source selections and control. IRLinX adds an IR receiver to the zone, and for zones requiring increased amplification external amplifiers, like NetStreams EIM enabled Professional series amplifier, can be connected to the SpeakerLinX.
Mounting Options
SpeakerLinX can be rack mounted, mounted at the speaker, or in the zones walls. Using a 2U NetStreams Rack Mount plate up to 4 SpeakerLinX can be mounted on the plate. Because of its 2-gang size, the SpeakerLinX can also be mounted in the wall. An in-wall kit is available (sold separately) that makes it easy to install and access at a later time. Ideally, the SpeakerLinX should be mounted as close to the speaker as possible to preserve audio quality. A surface mount plate (sold separately) is recommended for mounting into an enclosure or truss and the SpeakerLinX easily clicks in.
StreamNet Connected
NetStreams Patent-pending StreamNet Technology provides the backbone for DigiLinX. StreamNet technology ensures that audio between all zones are within 500 microseconds of each other, StreamNet Connected devices work seamlessly together, and can be updated in the future as new features become available.
